Review of Natural Born Killers (1994) by Joey S — 26 Jul 2012
I disagree with the people that say this is a brilliant satire of violence in the media. If it's trying to be satirical or critical of pop culture, then it does a terrible job by being the exact thing it's trying to mock.
The movie is blatantly violent, past tastefulness and far past making any intelligent point about our culture. Whatever message Oliver Stone was trying to send to the audience is lost amidst the excessive violence that's glorified throughout the movie.
Generally I don't mind violence in a movie, but that shouldn't be a movie's entire selling point. Stone just tried way too hard to shock his audience into thinking the movie is a work of art, when it's really just throwing scenes of over-the-top violence together and hoping they form a movie.
