Review of Natural Born Killers (1994) by Jonathan P — 01 Jun 2014
"THE KILLING SPREE OF MICKEY AND MALLORY KNOX".
- 'Natural Born Killers' is a 1994 pulp-crime film by director Oliver Stone (Platoon, JFK) and written by Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction). It's a Bonnie and Clyde kind of story. The mixture of different shots, sharp dialogues and brutal action scenes got a lot of controversial critical response. Stone's approach is experimental, but effective. Not the best movie I've seen, but it was certainly entertaining. You'll definitely remember Mickey and Mallory. With a nice cast: Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games saga, True Detective), Juliette Lewis (From Dusk till Dawn, What's Eating Gilbert Grape), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes), Tom Sizemore (Pearl Harbor, True Romance), Pruitt Taylor Vince (The Cell, Identity) and Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black, No Country For Old Men).
When Mallory Wilson (Lewis) met deliveryman Mickey Knox (Harrelson), it was love at first sight. They take off together, stealing the car of Mallory's abusive father. After being arrested and spending time in jail, Mickey goes back to Mallory's home and helps her to kill her parents. It's only the beginning of their killing spree, as they travel around in Mexico, murdering not only policemen, but also people who annoy them or just for the fun of it. The tv-show 'American Maniacs' hosted by Wayne Gale (Downey Jr.) makes them stars. But their reckless actions, will eventually get them caught by Detective Jack Scagnetti (Sizemore), a man obsessed with mass murders. Mickey and Malloy go to the prison where Warden Dwight McClusky (Jones) wants to kill the lovers...
