Review of National Velvet (1945) by Spencer S — 05 Oct 2010
Warm and heartfelt story which successfully takes you back to an era that just doesn't exist anymore. The narrative is slightly implausible for today's audiences, but if you allow the film to play I defy anyone not to feel their heartstrings be pulled a little.
Their is some great performances by all but I really liked the roles played by Anne Revere and Donald Crisp. Their chemistry as the parents was just magical and real. You don't see relationships like theirs in real life anymore let alone on film.
And Liz. A great breakout for her and to know she did most of her own riding in the film just impresses me even more. Some beautiful cinematography contributes to a great film, a true classic!
