Review of National Treasure (2004) by Bryanbezter — 01 May 2020
Great things about the movies:
1. The story, mystery/clue solving and action scenes are great.
2. The casting is perfect.
3. Great performances by Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Franklin Gates, Sean Bean as Ian Howe, Diane Kruger as Dr. Abigail Chase, Justin Bartha as Riley Poole, Jon Voight as Patrick Henry Gates, and Harvey Keitel as Agent Peter Sadusky.
4. The production design and properties are beautiful.
5. The score is fantastic.
6. The character introduction, roles, and development are great. The dynamics of protagonist vs antagonist are perfect.
7. The visual effects are well done.
Debatable holes:
1. The password for the preservation room was extremely weak.
2. The security system during gala dinner was very weak.
3. The gift shop clerk thought that Ben took a souvenir copy, which he did not. It was either Ben intended to take a souvenir copy in the first place or the clerk did not scan the souvenir copy bar-code.
4. The enemies always failed to hit their targets.
5. Why did Ian decide to go to Boston alone without taking Ben? He barely got enough clue.
