Review of National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) by Brian H — 13 Sep 2009

I definitely saw this movie when I was a younger, but it was never on rotation at our house. So it never was a huge part of my life. I re-watched it and I don't think it completely holds up. It feels quite dated and the jokes are sort of tough to find.

For instance, is a dog attacking two people funny? However, there are definitely some pretty silly and funny moments and Chevy Chase gives a classic comedy performance. The film is easy to watch and it's fun to see the absurd disasters the Griswolds encounter, but I found some of the comedy a little thin and off putting.

Not sure if it's because I'm approaching it as an adult now or if it's just because the times have changed. I was disappointed to see its not quite the comedy classic I had remembered.
