Review of National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) by Jacob B — 09 Feb 2018
Despite some occasional padding and, in my opinion, not as good as Christmas Vacation which is apparently the only sequel in this series that everyone enjoys, National Lampoon's Vacation remains a comedy classic.
When noticing that John Hughes is writing the script, that's a sign that the movie's going to make me laugh my ass off. Maybe not as consistently here as in some of his other movies regardless of whether he's a director or simply writing the script but I still believe that it's going to have its fair share of laughs if Hughes is writing your script.
Now I wonder what Groundhog Day's like. Harold Ramis seems to be a beloved actor and director. May he rest in peace. Chevy Chase doesn't just PLAY Clark Griswold, he becomes Clark Griswold. Every minute, he's attempting to keep a straight face not wanting to reach his breaking point no matter how many pratfalls he's subject to.
One thing that really stood out for me in this movie is the cinematography. It makes for some beautiful shots all leading to a fun climax. A charming road movie that remains a comedy classic to this very day.
I'm going to regret reviewing the other Vacation sequels, aren't I?
