Review of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) by Clifford H — 28 Dec 2013
The last Christmas classic. Everything and anything that followed was heartless corporate schlock. I like to remember that this came out just prior to the premier of The Simpsons on television. I never really cared for this film, but it's one of those that you can't really stop watching once it's on.
Nothing will ever truly top the original Vacation, but this one is so gosh darn charming. The absurd slapstick perhaps wore thin on me in my youth, but now it's clear it's just meant to be absurd so that it can be enjoyed by all ages.
