Review of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) by Gary C — 06 Apr 2011
I can only watch someone not turn on lights for so long before I realize that I never cared to begin with and get bored with picking my fingers. That covers my two main problems with the movie; it was more boring than funny, and I didn't care about the main character.
When I can't relate to the main character because he irritates the crap out of me, I just can't care about anything that happens. It's mostly just the way he talks, and how his eyelids never know what they're doing.
.. and his stupid face. If the main character were more of an everyman who was just going through the motions at Christmas time, it could have been okay. Until the redneck cousins showed up. Rednecks are rarely funny in movies/TV and when every reason that they're not funny is over-exaggerated in a "hilarious" way, it's more eye-roll/wince worthy than anything else.
This movie's lame.
