Review of Nashville (1975) by Pete F — 06 Aug 2007
What I love about Altman is his ability to understand every one of his characters and portray them as absolutely human as possible, even those who we are meant to laugh at or be derisive of (like Opal or Haven).
And not once does this empathy with his characters mollify his scathing satirical purpose. In fact, it only amplifies it, and makes the dark outlook more than just bitterly funny, but also deeply sorrowful.
