Review of Nashville (1975) by Will G — 05 Oct 2007
The best you can say for this film is that it was influential: evidently, this was the first major example of a multi-character-intersecting plot. The good part about that influence is that just about every film to follow in Nashville's murky wake was far superior (Magnolia and Crash in particular).
Robert Altman just received an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement, and the presenters made fun of how contrived and unenjoyable his films are. Very brave of them, and very true. This one was so boring that I turned it off about 30 minutes into its plodding 3 hours.
Influence schminfluence.
