Review of Nashville (1975) by Gary G — 28 Jan 2010
An interesting look at Nashville and the country music industry in the 1970s. I understood its brilliance but I thought its satire went a bit over-the-top. The mockery of Southern politics was great as I found Hal Phlip Walker just as ridiculous as many fringe third-party movements like the current Tea Party.
I did find the portrayal of the country music industry to be a bit too harsh. Some criticisms were spot on such as the mockery of overblown patriotism in the song "200 Years" that begins the film.
Jeff Goldblum was awesome though!
