Review of Nashville (1975) by Nathan W — 28 May 2005
[color=#ffffff]Multi-layered, masterfully-told mosaic chronicling the intertwining lives of twenty-four characters as they come into contact during a political campaign disguised as a music festival in Tennessee.
This epic study of human interaction never fails to serve up a mixture of emotions, including an unforgettably moving finale; long running time is dwarfed by superb acting from the entire ensemble cast and inspired musical performances.
Robert Altman is at top form here, crafting one of the finest films ever made, never compromising style with story comprehension and poignancy; Joan Tewkesbury's excellent screenplay portrays each character with equal plausibility and depth and explores their fates on a magnificently grand scale.
