Review of Nas: Time Is Illmatic (2014) by Cristina U — 07 Oct 2014
I didn't go into this movie a huge Nas fan by any means. I liked the rapper and remember liking a couple of his songs back in the day but that's where it ended. I came out of this film not only a true Nas fan, but also completely inspired by his story.
Coming from a neighborhood that could've crushed him, he beat the odds and created one of the most important hip hop albums ever made. This documentary will make you want to look at what you have and that you can create something greater than yourself and your surroundings.
Delving into what it means to be a black man in America, Time is Illmatic is not just a story about a rapper but about how to become something in a world that thinks you are nothing.
