Review of Nanking (2007) by Maggie N — 25 Jan 2008
Even though it's a documentary, it's being presented in a very alternative way - each character would talk about their experiences with the Japanese and how it's changed their lives. Described one by one, the audience can feel the pain and the brutality of the Japanese in the War of Nanking. I believe, due to the extensive research of foreigners' journals, historical movies, and those Japanses soldiers (who still have still find goodness within their hearts to admit their wrong doings) made this film so personal and realistic. Even though highlights were made as a daily entry in the movie, it was only one incident from the many thousands more within the day, which was being exempted from the movie. It really brings chills to my spine at each incident that the diary entries were told.
Believe me when I say that it's a documentary worth watching; believe me when I say that it will not be boring, but an eye-opener.
I only hope that the Japanese will one day admit their fault instead of cover-ups and propaganda. There is no use denying it when you know that it's true. It runs in your blood.
