Review of Nanking (2007) by Chris W — 14 May 2008
This is a decent documentary that I enjoyed seeing because I know nothing about this history of this event. How accurately portrayed the invasion of Nanking is, I have no idea, but I found a lot of it very interesting.
The film uses actors, in a round circle discussion sort of format, to read real-life memoirs from the period, and many of the actual people from the time period are filmed a very basic documentary interview format.
All of this really brought the film down as it made for a rather dull film experience. It felt like something you would see in a lecture hall or museum. Regardless, it still kept my interests perked enough to make it decent.
