Review of Nanking (2007) by Eugene K — 18 Jun 2008
Yes, it's a documentary. But is it boring? No. It might even be one of the most disturbing films from last year. Woody Harrelson and other actors are good too but this movie shines when the real Chinese survivors are on the screen.
One of the most memorable stories told by one Chinese survivor is how his mother kept breast feeding his little brother while she was bleeding to death from bayonet stabs. I personally would have like more time with the Chinese cast on the screen.
I loved how the movie also considered the Japanese point of view, leaving no room for any bias. More people should definitely seek out this movie.
