Review of Nancy Drew (2007) by David B — 27 Jul 2008
Okay, first off: I can't really believe I watched this on my own volition. Yeah, I was a fan of the books when I was a kid (the Hardy Boys alway seemed like a couple of tools). I started watching as a lark & found myself getting intrigued by the silly little mystery.
Secret passages, flashlights, tunnels - just like old times. But unfortunately, the filmmakers felt the need to bring Nancy into the modern world. This Meta-Nancy was the least successful part of the movie.
Suddenly, she became an annoying know-it-all. Also, violence in today's world is more brutal and kinda ruins the innocence of Nancy Drew. And seems out of place in a kids movie. Case in point: little Miss Drew even performs a tracheotomy! With a ballpoint pen! Try that one at home kids!
