After reading Burroughs book, of the same title, and re-watching the film, I found a new respect for Cronenberg's genius. Seriously, how the hell do you make a movie about the most cluster fuck stream of consciousness novel possibly ever written? Cronenberg pulled it off, taking liberties of course, with grace or horror.
