Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by Valérie C — 17 Feb 2008
As I've heard is the case for "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," this film is part adaptation and part biography. This gives it an inconsistent narrative which fails to capture the blithe incoherence of the book.
Although it's interesting seeing some of the surreal aspects portrayed, they're merely weird here, and don't convey the social satire of the book. The cast is good, including Peter Weller and Judy Davis.
