Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by Morten Ø — 08 Jan 2009
I must admit I'm a lame, sucker-ass-dick who unfortunately havn't read any of Burroughs' books. Before I watched the movie I was aware of that he took a lot of drugs, was homosexual, was friends with Kerouac, was one of the first beat authors and that he shot his former wife by accident. Taking this into considderation, and being keen on Cronenberg's movies, the movie was extremely great anyway. From the absolute first scene, where Weller comes to disinfect an apartment for bugs, I was completely sold. The style Cronenberg had decided to put into this movie fits my head right on the spot.
I can't go into details about the story. But if you like drug-vision like Gilliam's 'Fear and loathing Las Vegas' you'll find this one even better - The vision are, no question about it. I saw it yesterday and I havn't been able to stop thinking about this one, it really freaked me out - In a good way that is. Can't wait to see it again, but I'll wait until I have read something by Burroughs. Weird, weird movie that will puzzle you until you die perhaps :-).
