NAKED LUNCH is an often incoherent mess of a movie that otherwise does a good job of summing up the writing process, at least when drugs are involved. Peter Weller does a great job playing a foil for William S.

Burroughs, the author of the source novel, and the truly bizarre creatures and strange sense of place given by InterZone, the odd port where the story is set, gives the film a transporting quality amid the insanity.

Like a lot of drug movies, NAKED LUNCH is often the cinematic equivalent of a babbling lunatic, but the movie has qualities that are impossible to ignore. I plan to read the novel and watch the movie again, which I'm sure will be most rewarding.
