Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by Grayson D — 28 May 2011
In many ways Naked Lunch the movie functions as both an excellent companion piece to the novel and as a fascinating metaphor for the writing process of this post modern master piece. Bits and pieces of this movie are in fact very loosley based on Burroughs life.
With a linear plot somewhat adapted from characters and the setting of the novel, but director David Cronenberg's unique directing momment not a moment of this movie didn't fascinate me. What disapointed me was the lack of AJ and Hassan, two of my favorite characters from the novel.
I would recomend the viewer read the novel first, and know a little bit about Burroughs before watching this. It certainly is a special interest film that benefits from it's noir tinges.
