Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by Tim M — 19 Apr 2013
Starting off with the Assassin's creed; "Nothing is true, everything is permitted" is an interesting choice, but it begins to make sense after the 12 minute mark. RoboCop plays an exterminator in Cronenberg's adaptation of the 1959 novel based on Burroughs' addictions and travels.
An " incredible mind-trip involving bug powder, Brazilian centipedes, typewriters turning into giant insects, and bumping into Mugwumps in bars." For fans of Burroughs, and Cronenberg's old stuff.
Could alternatively be titled "Leaving Tangier" or "The Heroin, Morphine and Marjoun Diary" for the similarities to Thompson's semi-autobiographical drug writing. Naked Lunch has noir and Kafka elements that make it sufficiently different to garner a watch for those interested in substance abusing writers.
