Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by Sirius B — 21 Jan 2008
I really did enjoy this film. The combination of Burrough's life, writing, and drug-addled paranoia mixed with a bizarre breakdown of the writing process really made for an interesting metafictional experience.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, however, unless they're somewhat familiar with the Beat generation and/or Burrough's life and can appreciate Burrough's work. What surprised me most, though, was that Croenenberg didn't use any of Burrough's film cut-up techniques, which I felt would have made much sense in the context of this film.
