Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by Steffigy? — 25 Jun 2008
This film is not for everyone. With that being said, I DO think that most people should see this movie, at least once. It is a rarity in film history, one of a kind and definately unlike any other movie experience you'll venture.
I actually categorize David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch with Dadid Lynch's "Eraserhead"- Bizarre, surreal, creepy, and abstractly poignant. Naked Lunch is more like a recorded dream (or nightmare) than a movie.
The imagery really sticks with you long, long after viewing the film. Another good point to note about this film is that there are layers of hidden meaning. It is like an Easter egg hunt for the mind.
Many human emotions, conditions, social issues and general wiles of *humanity* are tucked into a brilliant screenplay- many to found after multiple viewings. You don't need to be a drug user to *get* this movie, but you will feel like you are on drugs while wathing it.
