Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by Taylor B — 28 Feb 2009
Quite the odd and disturbing journey through drugs, bugs, and paranoia. Cronenberg's vision of Burroughs novel is much more about the absurd journey rather than caring about fully understanding what is going on.
In the end the film has some great disturbing images of oversized mutant bugs and it's always enjoyable. The film can't quite be touching the realms of genius, but it sure is a film not to be missed.
It's highly original and Peter Weller is amazing as Bill Lee. The movie has tons of great quotes and though maybe Cronenberg has slight fetish with insects, he sure knows how to bring them to the screen in great ways.
