Review of Nacho Libre (2006) by John G — 07 Sep 2010
"Nacho Libre." This movie has gone from a 20 to a 40 to a 60 to a 100% in my review save mostly for the fact that I finally "got" the humour. As a tendancy I approach movies with a somewhat critical mindset and for comedies expect an overarching comedic theme. If you're going to watch this drop that mindset like I did.
The key to watching this movie, and similar titles such as "Napoleon Dynamite" is to "experience the scene," seperate each individual moment as a skit and value the humour instead of asking yourself "what does this have to do with anything.".
Armed with this new mentality the movie becomes instantly hilarious and actually groundbreaking in its comedic presentation. As someone who is in the grinder everyday at work (like the rest of you I'm sure) it was actually surprisingly refreshing to be assailed with improptu songs of nuns and Nacho's wrestling training.
I have to recommend this to anyone and everyone and recommend a repeat watch. Snack Attack Recommendation: Steak Burrito with eggs and green onions with tortilla chips (trust me you'll want this by the end).
