Review of Nacho Libre (2006) by Walkenm. — 24 Jul 2006
Quite frankly (and somewhat sadly), the best movie to come out of Hollywood this summer. Jared Hess' deadpan view of the world is both compassionate and absurd - and the formula works far better here than in Napoleon Dynamite.
Plus, his eye for composition and shot choice is unlike anything (particularly in comedy) emerging from Hollywood's hackneyed dregs. Obviously, the dramatic moments of the film could have been better exectuted, but Nacho Libre's heart is so clearly and consistently in the right place, that I couldn't help but give in to its unimpeachably endearing vibe.
Also, "Get that corn out of my face" is easily the best line of the year. I will never stop laughing at that.
