I'm usually with the critics, but not on this one. No spoilers: suffice to say the characters behave in ways that are required by the bizarre storyline, rather than how a reasonable person would expect them to behave.
And, Eastwood's sentimentality once again gets the better of him. And, if that Oscar is for best OVERactor, Penn certainly deserves it.
