Review of Mystic River (2003) by Richard C — 18 Sep 2012
A gripping drama with terrific performances, Clint Eastwood elicits some of Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins' acting to date. The ending won't leave many feeling positive (what with Laura Linney's cringe-inducing "you could rule this town", too-supportive wife speech to Penn), but the hand action from Kevin Bacon as Sean Devine--probably the most unscathed character in the film--to Penn as Jimmy is fitting.
Truly, my heart broke for Marcia Gay Harden as Celeste in the final moments. Entirely deserving of its praise.
