Review of Mystery Team (2009) by Tim H — 20 Jun 2010
Donald Glover earned my adoration in the NBC series "Community," and he displays the same likability and charm in Mystery Team. However, I can't say the same for his partners-in-comedy D.
C. Pierson and Dominic Dierkes. Apparently these 3 lads are some sort of YouTube sensation comedy troupe, but unlike the last comedy troupe I can think of who made their leap to the big screen (Broken Lizard) they probably should have stayed on the very, very small screen until they had something better to go on.
The concept of boy-detectives grown into young-adult-detectives has good potential for humour, but mostly it's wasted on potty jokes and ill-advised attempts at pathos. Not the best sick day viewing I ever chose.
.. I went in expecting hilarity on the level of Super Troopers, but all I got was something only moderately tolerable on the level of Beerfest.
