Review of Mystery Men (1999) by David H — 20 Apr 2011
An inventive and quirky take on the superhero genre, Mystery Men provides a fresh mix of silly humour, sight gags and general witiness. A superhero film that doesn't take itself too seriously, yet still contains a strong enough plot with a funny premise- the fact they think they are actual superheros with real super powers, when all they are is a strange mix of normal people using random weapons, which apparently make them superheros.
Ben Stiller's power is the funniest, the ability to become angry, now that is a rare gift. All the actors are great to watch, but Ben Stiller is the funniest and the most entertaining. However, with an admired braveness to be wild, I just wish Mystery Men took this to its full advantage and provided us with more original humour.
Overall, with a wild mix of interesting and absurd characters and the admired ability to mix action/ adventure and comedy so successfully, Mystery Men is the funnest superhero movie ever.
