Review of Mystery, Alaska (1999) by Shawn M — 10 Jun 2008
An ok sports movie. This movie works well when it focuses at the task at hand, that being the hockey scenes. When it tries to deviate from that, it flatters. Like one woman cheats on her husband, he finds out, and they both kind of go thats that.
But the hockey scenes are done well, even if it totally unbelievable that the NY Rangers would play some pond hockey team in Alaska. Russell Crowe leads a pretty solid troop on the ice and on the screen.
But, I really could have done without Mike Myers. His presence here is totally unwarrented, other then he is Candians and likes hockey. What didn't they just cast the whole damn country in that regard.
But, as a hockey fan I like when the game gets a big expose, so this film does succeed in that regard.
