Review of Mysterious Skin (2005) by Raquel G — 08 Dec 2009

This a story about two boys who have expierenced child abuse in their early childhood (molested by their baseball coach). Both boys deal with it very differently. One, who is actually gay, still feeals feeling of love for his coach and can't deal with the feelings of nostalgia. Trying to feel what he has felt back then he becomes a male prostitute obsessed with sex. The other boy can't remember what has happened only that something has. He believes he was abducted by aliens. He is heavily traumatized and has become asexual because of his fear of being touched sexually. This boy is looking for answers that only the other boy can give him.

This movie deals with a difficult subject and does it very well. It is very explicit in what it suggests but never in what it actually shows.
