Review of My Week with Marilyn (2011) by J Chris J — 18 Apr 2012
I see a quote posted often on Facebook (mostly on women's favorite quotes section).
"I'm selfish, impatient, a little insecure, I make mistakes, I'm out of control, and at times a little hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, you sure dont deserve me at my best." ~ Marilyn Monroe.
Thus is the foundation of this film, where Michelle Williams bravely takes one of the most famous women of all time and practically clones her entire persona. Every insecurity, every crazed notion and every seductive move. There is a line in the film uttered by master thespian Kenneth Branagh (portraying the immortal and legendary thespian Sir Laurence Olivier - whom some have claimed to be the greatest actor of all time - I mean Hell he died a Baron so you know he had massive respect), when after Monroe flubs take after take making Olivier lose his cool he confides to a character, "I bet she's just fooling with us. I bet she absolutely knows everything she's doing.".
Thus the mystery and appeal of the woman who died far too young taking a talent and many great secrets with her.
The film itself is quite entertaining. The story moves quite well, the writing is fantastic and it is well cast.
RECCOMENDED!!
