Review of My Week with Marilyn (2011) by Alex E — 21 Apr 2012
Michelle Williams absolutely shines in her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe. She embraces the vulnerability and insecurities of Monroe flawlessly without coming off as cliche or as if she was doing an impression.
The basis of the film is very compelling but has a borderline shallow script with sophomoric direction. Overall, the film works incredibly and not enough can be said of the casting. With a slightly better direction/writing execution along with Williams near perfect role, this one could have potentially been one of the greats.
Very enjoyable and showcases more depth that it initially puts on.
