Review of My Week with Marilyn (2011) by Ramon H — 05 May 2012
Uninspiring and sappy overall, feels like something you'd see on the Hallmark channel, incongruously featuring some great actors, and a phenomenal (and Oscar-nominated) turn by Michelle Williams as Marilyn.
Her performance is completely well-rounded, capturing not just Monroe's trademark characteristics on film, but also the vulnerable girl behind them (so appropriate being the line said to Redmayne's character Colin when seeing the waiting press, "Shall I be her?").
Notable also are Judi Dench's beautiful but brief appearances as Dame Sybil Thorndike, playing the veteran tragedian, almost maternal in her kind protectiveness of Monroe.
