I dont think anyone will ever solve the mystery of marilyn, not even marilyn herself could and this becomes clear in the film. Williams takes on a brave role in an attempt to understand the almost mythological downfall of an american icon and comes as close as possible.
If you have read anything about the production of The Prince and the Showgirl you will appreciate the accuracy achieved between the dynamics of Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe's relationship. Not only Williams portrayal of Marilyn can be admired but of Norma Jeane, the lost girl who never found peace.
