Review of My Week with Marilyn (2011) by Millo T — 03 Oct 2012
A current of opinion defines Marilyn as a naive, innocent girl, whose sin was getting more famous that she could manage with, and was not prepared to lead with some many egos and expectations around, trying herself to be more erudite and intellectual, and failing catastrophically while trying it.
I do not know if this version is true, although, by one side, is very attractive, and, for the other, is would explain many of the different things and testimonies we have heard about her (a photographer, for example, said she ask him, "Please, do not make me appear as a ridicule woman").
Anyway, this based in real facts story goes on about this idea, although we must take under consideration that is a subjective point of view (even, the main character looks too gentle while you could deduce his behavior is just pure lust, but, who can know it?).
In this movie, they tried to make some famous actors be live again, with all the difficulty because, at first, is complicated to find new actors that resemble the old ones. They do not get that with any of them, but they try to get closer to the psychological aspect of the characters: they get at least partial with Olivier and Vivien Leigh (I can not be sure as I have not seen the original version), and they do marvelously with Michelle Williams, which gets into the appropriate tone for Monroe power, and at the same time curse.
In a movie of actors, the story gets to move on to show what the characters have to offer, and makes not a bad final product.
