Review of My Week with Marilyn (2011) by Monique Y — 14 Jan 2013
After reading the reviews here, I must start by saying that a movie about Marilyn Monroe must be taken for what it is instead of expecting deep analysis on her persona, drive, frailty or sexuality since whatever crossed her mind, body and soul went to the grave with her.
This movie has great filmography, a remarkable cast, great music, and MICHELLE WILLIAMS! She did a superb job becoming Marilyn and I am sure that it must have been an extremely draining task for Michelle as it was for Marilyn: troubled, sexy, extremely conscious of her appeal and impact on others.
Haunted by the memory of an insane mother and afraid of repeating the story herself. Wanting to be treated as Norma Jean but unable to exchange Marilyn Monroe for such freedom. Sure, the screenplay is based on Colin Clark's sole perspective, but hey, in the absence of the counterpart, I am glad he shared his and treated her with such care and respect.
It's sad that some years you can't give more than one Oscar per category!
