Review of My Week with Marilyn (2011) by Matthew A — 31 Jan 2013
Unusual and entertaining biopic based on the memoir by Colin Clark, who's played by Eddie Redmayne with the right amount of naivete. The backdrop is 1956 England during the production of Laurence Olivier's movie, The Prince and the Showgirl.
Michelle Williams brings oodles of warmth and humanity to Marilyn...we see her fragility and strength. It's a captivating performance. The entire cast offers fine support with Judi Dench a standout as usual.
Kudos to director Simon Curtis and writer Adrian Hodges for fashioning a biopic, which has the look and feel of a live-action, fairy tale.
