Review of My Week with Marilyn (2011) by Jillian L — 23 Jul 2013
I've been looking forward to watching this one because of all the praise Michelle Williams received for her portrayal as Monroe. And she deserved it. I thought she was brilliant. There was just so much going on in Monroe's head and I just absolutely loved the way Williams played her.
The rest of the acting all around is quite good. Kenneth Branagh makes a wonderful Olivier, Eddie Redmayne nails the young naive thing perfectly, Judi Dench is as charming as ever. Then there was Dominic Cooper and Emma Watson filling out the smaller roles and they did a nice job as well.
Someone who almost stole it for me was Zoe Wanamaker as Paula Strasberg, I loved her. Something I liked about the movie as a whole was the behind the scenes aspect of it all. From seeing the beginning of her marriage with Arthur Miller, and how this was the period of her life when she got into Method Acting and wanted to be taken seriously as an actress.
Overall, this is really a fascinating movie and is worth it on Williams' performance alone.
