Review of My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006) by Marko S — 03 May 2010
I just wonder how anyone could have made such a stupid movie? and let me ask you a question: are kids and retards the only crowd that deserve to go to movie theaters? are there virtually no standard on TV either? who the fuck in this wide world thought that this is a good idea for the movie?
Ok, let's got where it all starts: to the politics. whenever we have conservative government in the US, we have lots of superhero movies. why? it is the republican way: senseless, heroic and simple. butt-kicking! but what really sucks is that all the good comic books had their movies times and times before, and endless sequels, and everything that should be made is made already.
So the creators have thought of a brand new idea: let's put something of the other genre cliches in a mish-mash. worked fine (?) with smallville on TV, so why the fuck not. so we have some of the teen comedy, romantic comedy and nerd comedy in a stereotypical jungle without a real point. but we have expensive-looking special effects, and some action and mainly talking.
The characters are sketchy and simple: we have a dork, his friend who seems like a sitcom character, pushy black feminist boss, a hot and caring co-worker, a superhero girlfriend with the alter-ego of nerdy and freakish emotionally-rollercoatered girl, and a super-criminal who is an ego-maniac. the story goes through the cliches, and there is too much talking and trying to be funny. the originality of the superhero character is lost in all that genre bullshit, and we don't have one genre, but so many of them.
Actually, this never had a potential to be taken seriously. maybe, just maybe it had some potential to be funny. but, it ain't.
Maybe the industry should stop making well-marketed products for target groups and maybe then we could see some movies. maybe it should be art. again.
