Review of My Summer of Love (2005) by Polarbear S — 08 Apr 2007
A crapper load of tosh I dont think I've seen in a while!
What a totally unsympathetic bunch of people - although I do feel a bit sorry for poor mona taken in by the completely self-absorbed Tamsin, this is NOT an enjoyable, positive or in any way 'good' lesbian story - utter crap! You could see the way that Tam was playing Mona from very early on and a nasty piece of work she turned out to be.
The only positives were the cinematography which made the english (Yorkshire or somewhere else?) countryside look positively mediterranean and the soundtrack by Goldfrapp quite atmospheric.
Why do lesbians seem to not only settle for but actually applaud any old tosh which still perpetuates the 'evil or dead' lesbian theme as long as they get a glimpse of girly attraction in it? We should demand more and not settle for less. For all the ribbing I do of DEBS, at least its a positive, happy, non-angsty (I refute the notion that all gay women only want angsty love stories although I'm being constantly depressed by the regular reinforcement of this view) story! Whats wrong with GOOD or even 'regular' stories with female protaganists!?
