Review of My Soul to Take (2010) by Andrew L — 26 Feb 2011
"My Soul to Take" starts off with a bang: a quite intense opening scene, and then the spiral downward begins. After the opening scene, the rest of the film becomes a muddled, murky, and confusing snoozer.
It seems Wes Craven was really trying to make a solid horror film plot wise but just ended up making an overlong, badly acted, and a far from scary or suspenseful film. Even while a majority of the film was horrible I at least expected the suspenseful third act that Wes Craven is known for.
Unfortunately, the climax was an even greater disappointment. Wes Craven usually delivers on a good finale with the killer loose in the house. There was absolutely zero suspense, cheap scares, and the twist was not nearly as shocking or smart as it thought it would be.
The ending was mildly amusing but nothing that will be remembered after a week. Overall, "My Soul to Take" was a huge misfire from the suspense master Wes Craven. I was expecting at least a movie that would be suspenseful and mindless fun from start to finish, but instead, I got the complete opposite.
(Rating: F...Not scary, not suspenseful, confusing plot, poorly acted and just a complete mess. Too bad because the film HAD potential to go somewhere but it failed).
