As harsh as I tend to rate films you may be wondering why I gave a movie that's at 8% on the tomatometer a 4 out of 5 *'s. Well for the simple fact that I enjoyed it. Not only did I enjoy it, I found the acting to be spot on, the cinimetography was typical from this genre but not bad, and the directing was solid (Wes Craven.

.hello...). More so I enjoyed the film for why alot of people hated it. It followed a tried and true formula for slasher flicks and did so perfectly. Just because a film, especially a horror film, is "predictable" does not make it bad.

If anything it's predictable because the genre has been done to death (no pun intended) and there are not too many new ideas in the "slasher" category. What I look for in good slasher/horror films are consistency, scare factor, cool deaths, and that they are fun.

Don't get me wrong most so called horror films that come out nowadays are complete shit and don't deserve to be viewed. But My Soul to Take is not "Generic" it just follows a certain recipe that the director Wes Craven helped create.

This is one director that can get away with "predictable" because he wrote the book on these type of films and has made his filmaking style seem predictable because of all the filmakers that have copied him (poorly I might add) over the years.

But My Soul to Take is a certain type of film, a slasher, in fact it's a certain type of slasher film and it does this job perfectly. So why punish the film for it? I had a blast watching this movie and it stuck with me thats why I gave it 4 stars.
