Review of My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (2010) by Phil N — 22 Sep 2009
Herzogâ??s other film (Bad Lieutenant also screened at TIFF this year) is a tedious crime drama about a lad (Michael Shannon) who stabs his mother with a sword and holes up with a couple of hostages, with Willem Dafoe playing the negotiator.
Produced by David Lynch, there is a somewhat offbeat vibe to the film, especially in the links to the play which Shannon is starring in, but itâ??s all a bit overblown and self-indulgent and I found myself getting bored very quickly.
Looks good though, with Herzogâ??s typical intrusive documentary style.
