Review of My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (2010) by Alex K — 09 Apr 2010
So basically Werner Herzog and David Lynch met and decided to make the most absurd movie they could. Mission accomplished. You can definitely tell that these two men have a hand in this film, but it's more of a Herzog film than a Lynch film.
Anyway, the movie is basically made by Michael Shannon's amazing performance as the completely bat-shit crazy Brad. Insanity at its most convincing. I was also surprised at just how totally absurd and humorous the film was.
Looking at the poster and hearing the description the film sounds very dark, whereas the actual film, while not a comedy, is filled with moments so ridiculous that they are funny. At times it feels like weird for the sake of weird, which is unlike Lynch and Herzog, but I still found it enjoyable and interesting and worth a view.
