Review of My Sister's Keeper (2009) by Robin T — 07 Oct 2010
Jodi Picoult, the author of My Sister's Keeper takes a controversial topic and wraps an interesting story around it that explores all the different views. The controversy are parents with a daughter suffering from cancer make the decision to have another child in the hopes that they will get a match for her. The new child turns out to be a match and as the years go by the new child donates blood, bone marrow and anything else her sister needs. There came a point when she asserted herself and sought the advice of a lawyer to gain her medical emancipation.
I read the book and actually thought the movie did a better job capturing the mixed feelings that she had as she fought for her rights. I also liked the father's character. He was a great dad and did a good job of supporting his daughter. They didn't go into details about the brother's acting out that was in the book. The acting was great, but bring the kleenex, you'll need them.
