River Phoenix is beautiful, backed here by a wonderfully odd cast among whom we find Keanu Reeves, in a surprising and watchful turn...watch it for them if you're feeling different (it is out there), or for the tone of the picture, which is absorbing - a blend of Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven/Badlands and early 90s independent cinema.
